The Times Leader asks Sherwood to spill the beans
The Whole Story
But it’s not that simple. In the police report, Sherwood says he was giving the woman a back rub. Sherwood has been married for 33 years, according to his own congressional Web site.
When Sherwood spoke to Times Leader reporters, he called the woman an acquaintance. He said he didn’t invite her. But then, why let her into his apartment?
Well Donny why was she in your apartment????

197 Comments:
Because after looking at her picture and listening to her on the radio this morning...it appears she just got lost, forgot her name and couldn't find her way home.
"Well Donny why was she in your apartment????"
Sherwood had a long affair. Not a mistake, a lifestyle.
That pretty young lady has probably had many affairs before..but can she remember all their names?
We should concede she probably remembers her name.. most of the time.
She is not a Congressperson.
Don Sherwood is and adult and can do as he pleases. He and his wife have been married for many years and, I believe, have several children. Who are we to judge their relationship?
He and his wife may have decided to have an "open" marriage. He may be involved in extra-marital relationships with her blessing. He may have told Ms. Ore that he was getting a divorce only to seduce her. Many men have done worse. At least he seems to be committed to his marriage – whatever its’ rules might be.
We do not know anything about his wife's behavior. She may not care what he does.
It's legal, I think. At least I do know that we have only a small piece of the story and should not judge!
"Don Sherwood is and adult and can do as he pleases."
This sounds amoral.
"He and his wife may have decided to have an "open" marriage. He may be involved in extra-marital relationships with her blessing. He may have told Ms. Ore that he was getting a divorce only to seduce her. Many men have done worse."
This is an awful defense. It is a condemnation.
"We do not know anything about his wife's behavior. She may not care what he does."
You are sick for writing this.
"It's legal, I think."
Choking someone is not legal. That is why the police were called, and she went to the hospital.

"Dirty Don" Sherwood
Is it OK with the people that run this site, to allow the people that vote in the 10th district to do so without your approval?
If so butt out.
"Is it OK with the people that run this site, to allow the people that vote in the 10th district to do so without your approval?
If so butt out."
I live and work in 10th District. I think Sherwood should resign. They were talking about it on the Sue Henry show this morning on WILK. It could happen.
Who cares what Sue Henry says. He was voted into office.
If you have someone better in mind have them run against him in the next election. The voters will decide
"Who cares what Sue Henry says."
A lot of people!
Think positive instead of negative thoughts about our district and it's elected officials.
If a lot of people think Sue Henry is great ...then let her run against Don Sherwood, if you think lots will vote for her or any other candidate. The voters will decide.
"Think positive instead of negative thoughts about our district and it's elected officials."
I want to. That's why Sherwood must go.
"If a lot of people think Sue Henry is great ...then let her run against Don Sherwood, if you think lots will vote for her or any other candidate."
You are correct. Thanks for the suggestion
Ok, so only those that live in the 10th district should have an opinon? Why then did Sherwood bus people from his home area into the 13th Congressional district to work the polls for the unendorsed Montco Candidate Melissa Brown. and by the way, she lost! And, where on his financial statements was that expense noted? Buses, Hotels? people? I'll tell you, i don't believe the cost was ever included in his campaign financial statements. So, where did the money Sherwood used come from? Why was it done? It was dirty politics by a dirty Don. So maybe Sherwood should have butted out of Montco politics. I delight in his embarassment!
Sherwood sucks
I second that motion!
If Sherwood wants to have affairs, it is his own business!

Sherwood to stay head of Incumbent Retention Committee
“Domestic incident” won’t hurt congressman, says GOP national committee member.
By BRETT MARCY and KEVIN AMERMAN Times Leader staff writers
Republican leaders remain confident that U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood will not be politically damaged by a flap over a “domestic incident” with 29-year-old Cynthia Ore.
So confident, in fact, they intend to keep Sherwood as chairman of a committee to help GOP candidates win re-election in tough races.
“We don’t see him as a vulnerable member,” said Caryn Alagno of the National Republican Congressional Committee. “He’s been in office a long time, and he’s got a solid record in his district.”
The NRCC announced in March that Sherwood had been named co-chairman of the organization’s Incumbent Retention Committee. The NRCC is the chief fund-raising arm of congressional Republicans.
The Times Leader asked Alagno Friday if Sherwood would retain the chairmanship in light of complaints from Ore. She says the 64-year-old congressman choked her while giving her a back rub in his Washington, D.C. apartment last September.
Alagno said no one within the NRCC has called for Sherwood’s removal from the incumbent retention chairmanship, adding that “there haven’t been any moves to that effect.”
Although the committee is dedicated to helping all incumbent Republican House members win re-election, Alagno said much emphasis is placed on helping vulnerable members prevail in difficult races.
“They meet when they deem appropriate and they monitor, advise and assist those candidates on the vulnerable list,” Alagno said.
Sherwood has spent the past few weeks facing questions about the choking claim.
Sherwood, who is married and has supported family values legislation, has denied the allegation. A report says he told police he was giving Ore a back rub and she ran to the bathroom for no reason.
Sherwood has since apologized for the “pain and embarrassment” to his family and supporters, but has not fully explained what happened that night. Nor has he explained the nature of his relationship with Ore, of Rockville, Md. He called her a “casual acquaintance.”
Sherwood refused to discuss the issue on Friday during his first public appearance in Luzerne County since news of the 911 call broke on April 30.
During a press conference Friday in Pittston Township regarding the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Monroe County, Sherwood was asked to specify what he had apologized for.
“Well, this is about Tobyhanna today,” Sherwood said. “I have given my statement out on that and I have nothing additional to add.
“But today, you know, we’re talking about Tobyhanna and that’s probably the most important economic generator for the area and that’s what this was all about,” he said. “If you’d like a copy of my statement, we can get you another one.”
When approached after the meeting, Sherwood said, “I have nothing new to add,” before ducking into his car and driving away.
Alagno of the NRCC said she doesn’t believe the Ore controversy will affect Sherwood’s ability to help his colleagues win re-election, adding that Sherwood should have no trouble winning a fifth term in office.
“Rep. Sherwood has apologized . . . and he’s going to continue working hard for his district,” Alagno said. “We believe he’s going to be re-elected.”
The GOP holds a voter registration edge in Sherwood’s 10th Congressional District, and its voters backed President Bush in the 2004 presidential election with 60 percent of the vote.
The arrogance of Sherwood is too much!

Some Sherwood degenerate is here.
Sherwood is a coward, who couldn't even speak for himself.
If you are going to call Congressman Sherwood a coward..you should identify yourself and whoever put up this site.
Otherwise you are the coward.
If you won't do that, a least just delete this site ,which you may have thought was a good idea at one time, but now seems to have run it's course.
After you, DON!
"at least just delete this site " you Sherwood henchmentr are really running SCARED!
"Sherwood is a coward."
The truth hurts
"you should identify yourself"
Ok, I will. I am not a member of Congress. Are you?
" at least just delete this site ,which you may have thought was a good idea at one time, but now seems to have run it's course."
You lying scum!
Now I know who you are, the writer for Bevis and Butthead
WILK Radio host Kevin Lynn today asked Scranton Mayor Dougherty if hee would run against Sherwood, and said "Sherwood has got to go!"
Kevin promises to remind voters as time goes by, and is determeind to get rid of Sherwood. He said Sherwood is a hypocrite, and ran on family values.
Whe we elected Sherwood, we was robbed!
Just a year and a half before we get to vote him out.
I have heard a lot of people talk about running against him.
Has Sherwood offered to resign yet?
One of my best friends, a woman believs Sherwood will resign. The shame will be too much for him to be in public.
Wow ,maybe Kevin Lynn will run!
I saw in the paper that Kevin Lynn should run. The writer was being sarcastic, as was the last post, but Kevin would be quite entertaining.
Lynn would be much more intelligent
Wonderful, I hope that is your candidate,I can hardly wait!
Lynn, a Republican, would wipe the floor with him in a debate!
This site is very humorous if nothing else.
We'll see how humorous it will be when Don is crying for mercy.
You KNOW Kevin Lynn would! Ha!
With Kevin's job he needs to say outrageous things to stimulate discussion.
If you want to get truly absurd why not hunt up Fred Williams and his geriatic brigade.
Kevin Lynn would at least be honest about what he stands for. Sherwood made a mockery of the values he pretended to espouse.
You must be a degenerate iif you still support him.
iif, your just an idiot
We want Fred Williams!
Sherwood is a disgrace to the morals and intellignce of Northeastern pennsylvania.
This website is the disgrace
Sherwood is GOING DOWN, Jack.
I just heard today that Sherwood's brother is a known or convicted pedophile, and that this was not the first time Sherwood has done this.
The people of Tunkannock know about Sherwood and his brother.
This site doesn't deserve another minutes attention,it's nothing other than a garbage dump.
Taht's right, it about dumping Sherwood.
The comments about Sherwood and his brother are beleived to be true.
That other guy criticising the site is just trying to defend that rat Sherwood.
Sherwood is a degenerate who should be sent back to Tunkannock to degenerate on his own time.
Sherwood has got to go.

The Sherwood flap
A Teflon Don, or a liability? exclusive
The congressman’s reported ‘domestic incident’ has some Democrats licking their chops for ’06. GOP says good luck.
By BRETT MARCY bmarcy@leader.net
HARRISBURG – U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood has apparently become a target for the Democrats, who say a “domestic incident” with a 29-year-old woman has left him vulnerable in his district.
Still, even loyal Democratic Party officials concede the four-term Tunkhannock Republican will be hard to beat.
“We certainly think he’s vulnerable,” said Sarah Feinberg, spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “We’ve had several Democrats who have contacted us with an interest in running against him.”
Democratic Party officials say at least one Democrat in the 10th Congressional District plans to mount a serious challenge to Sherwood.
However, Republicans say they’re not sweating Democratic opposition in Sherwood’s district.
“I wish them good luck,” said Carl Forti, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “This is probably one of the most far-fetched things I’ve heard.”
Democratic leaders around the state, including Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, are scouring the expansive 10th District to find viable candidates.
Knoll reached out to state Rep. Phyllis Mundy, a popular Kingston Democrat, trying to recruit her to run. Knoll said she works with U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, to recruit winnable Democratic candidates for congressional races.
Knoll’s interest in Mundy stemmed not from Sherwood’s current controversy, but from Knoll’s desire to get more women in Pennsylvania to run for Congress, she said.
“She was the only one I’ve asked, because I think Phyllis Mundy does a really excellent job and I thought she would be interested in running for Congress,” Knoll said. “I look across the whole commonwealth at different seats where there may be women candidates who might be interested in running.”
She refused to discuss whether allegations against Sherwood fueled her interest in finding a challenger for his seat, saying only: “I think everyone is vulnerable, whether it’s good press or bad press. ... I don’t speak ill of anyone.”
Mundy said she will not run for the seat.
She politely declined Knoll’s invitation, explaining that she enjoys her job in the state House of Representatives.
“I feel very productive right where I am,” Mundy said. “I’d have 16 years of seniority next year that I’d have to give up at the risk of not winning.”
She said it would be an uphill climb for any Democrat to win the 10th District because it was redrawn in 2001 to heavily favor the Republican candidates.
Republicans hold a 13-point registration edge over the Democrats in the district, 51 percent to 38 percent.
Despite the registration disadvantage, Democrats say the time is now to seize on what they perceive as Sherwood’s flagging public image. For the first time since redistricting took place in 2001, Democrats say they have a shot at winning the seat.
“I would think he would be the most vulnerable now,” said Joe Mazur, chairman of the Democratic Party in Luzerne County, the northern portion of which is in Sherwood’s district. “(Republicans) come out with their whole Bible and right wing agenda, and everything is holier than thou, and then you find out they’re not so holy.”
Mazur said he doubts a Democratic candidate from Luzerne County could win the 10th District. The district stretches out across all or part of 13 counties from the New Jersey border to Williamsport, and includes a sliver of Luzerne County.
He said the best chance for a viable Democratic challenger would be someone from a larger part of the district, such as the Lackawanna County area.
Sherwood’s spokesman, Jake O’Donnell, said the congressman isn’t thinking about the 2006 election.
“Right now, Congressman Sherwood is focusing on the job the people have elected him to do, and he takes his responsibilities in Congress very seriously,” O’Donnell said. “He takes his responsibilities in campaigns very seriously, too, but right now it’s a little premature to start speculating on campaign scenarios.”
Kingston Mayor Jim Haggerty, a spokesman for the Luzerne County Republican Party, said Sherwood would not be easily defeated. He said the former car salesman remains strong despite his recent personal troubles.
“I think that Don is in a very strong position going into this re-election fight,” Haggerty said. “He has done a good job representing the district, and he’s built a good bond with his constituency. ... While people may be displeased, I don’t think it’s going to cost him significant support.”
Sherwood became embroiled in a public flap in April after news broke that police were called to his Capitol Hill apartment on Sept. 15, 2004, for a domestic incident involving Cynthia Ore, 29, of Rockville, Md.
Ore called 911 after Sherwood, 64, “choked her for no apparent reason” while giving her a back rub at his D Street apartment, according to a police report. Police did not file charges, and a responding officer also noted “both parties have left out significant information or are not willing to discuss in detail what actually happened.”
Sherwood, who is married and has supported family values legislation, has denied Ore’s allegation.
Sherwood has since apologized for the “pain and embarrassment” to his family and supporters, but has not fully explained what happened that night. Nor has he explained the nature of his relationship with Ore beyond calling her a “casual acquaintance.”
In Susquehanna County, the Democrats are expecting to run a challenger, though they wouldn’t reveal his name.
“He hasn’t really announced yet, but I believe he’s going to take a run at it,” said Joey Franks, chairman of the Susquehanna County Democrats. “He has been around politics all his life, but this would be his first run at public office.”
Democrats in the county are keeping a tight lid on the identity of this potential candidate, saying he expects to announce his intentions within the coming weeks. Already, this unknown Democrat has made the rounds, introducing himself to party leaders in the district, as well as the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.
Although he is a political novice, this potential candidate comes with an impressive resume and could be a formidable foe for Sherwood, Franks said.
Forti, of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said he doesn’t put much stock in the mystery man’s chances.
“It takes a lot more than talk to put a district in play,” Forti said. “First, they’ve got to find a candidate. Then, they’ve got to raise $1 million. It takes time to raise that kind of money. They’d better get to work.”
Democrats know the odds of winning in such a Republican-heavy district are not in their favor. Still, they said it would be nice to finally run a candidate against Sherwood.
No Democrat has challenged Sherwood since Patrick Casey, brother of Treasurer Robert P. Casey Jr., narrowly lost in 2000 – before redistricting took Casey’s hometown of Scranton out of the 10th district and moved it into the 11th district, represented by U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke.
“(Sherwood) had that district gerrymandered so that it would benefit him,” said Jessie Bloom, chair of the Lycoming County Democrats. “What I’m wondering is, are the Republicans going to be running anybody?”
Most political insiders say Sherwood’s greatest threat would be a primary challenge from within his own party. Fallout from the incident with Ore could be enough for socially conservative Republicans to abandon him, some have said.
“I do think he’s vulnerable,” Bloom said. “This is supposed to be a Christian area, and do you think Christians support that behavior?”
Errol Flynn can attest to that. Flynn, a Honesdale Republican, ran against Sherwood in the 1998 primary, when the seat was open after longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph McDade retired. After losing, Flynn pledged his support to Sherwood.
Flynn said he won’t run against Sherwood next year, but he will no longer actively support Sherwood.
“My wife and I are disappointed in Don Sherwood,” Flynn said, sounding glum. “His wife, Carol, is wonderful. Their three daughters are wonderful. What he has done to them and to all the people that have supported him for many years is very sad.”
He said he suspects other Republicans feel as he does, but he doesn’t believe that will translate into a primary challenge. The reason, he said, is money. It would take a lot of cash to beat an incumbent congressman.
“It’s terrible,” Flynn said of the Ore flap, “but it’s not enough of a scandal.”
O’Donnell, Sherwood’s spokesman, said the controversy would not likely factor into the congressman’s campaign next year.
“As he has done in all his election campaigns, Congressman Sherwood is going to put his record before the voters and ask them for their support,” he said.
Flynn wants Sherwood to serve out the remainder of his term and retire, leaving the seat open.
If that doesn’t happen, Flynn suspects Sherwood will easily win re-election next year.
“Even though I will not raise money for Don and I will not donate to Don, I cannot imagine not voting for Don,” he said.
“People like me, who are Christians, are a big part of his support. And it’s people like me who are going to be offended by this, but I also have to ask myself, ‘What’s the alternative?’ I’m not going to vote for a Democrat.”
Yes that sums it up ,this story is over.
The campaign has not started yet!
And guess what, it never will.
The people of the 10th district have more concerns than family values, abortion and gun racks in our pick up trucks.
Sherwood has done a very good job and will be re-elected no matter what you novice political wanabe's whine about.
I can't wait for announcment mentioned in the article!
Sherwood is going to have real opposition!
This starting to get REALLY INTERESTING now!
I'm REALLY EXCITED now....it's Hillary Clinton!
She's moving to Montrose, so she can run in the 10th Cong. District ,how exciting!
Sherwood is gonna get a good ass whooping!

Ore’s suit: Sherwood beat me
$5.5 million is sought from congressman
By KEVIN AMERMAN
kamerman@leader.net
U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood repeatedly punched and choked a Maryland woman during a “five-year intimate relationship” with her, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday. Cynthia Ore, 29, of Rockville, Md., says that after each “unprovoked and vicious attack” Sherwood, 64, promised he wouldn’t do it again and begged her not to leave him, according to the four-count lawsuit filed by Patrick M. Regan, a prominent Washington, D.C., attorney. The lawsuit, filed in Superior Court of the District of Columbia, asks for $5.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages and accuses the congressman of assault and battery, gross negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It also says Ore plans to pursue obtaining a restraining order against Sherwood, R-Tunkhannock, forbidding him from having contact with her. The complaint states that throughout the long-term relationship, Sherwood repeatedly struck Ore on her face, neck, chest and back; violently yanked her hair; and tried to strangle her by placing his hands around her neck. In the complaint, Ore states she lived with Sherwood in apartment 215 at 110 D St. in Washington for much of the relationship and that he repeatedly promised to marry her and start a family. Ore has previously stated she met Sherwood in 1999 at a Young Republicans event. Sherwood would not comment on the lawsuit Wednesday. “He hasn’t seen the suit and won’t have any comment on it tonight,” said Sherwood’s spokesman, Jake O’Donnell. According to the suit: Sherwood assaulted Ore inside his Hill House apartment, a complex occupied mostly by members of Congress, on the morning of June 24, 2004. Sherwood, who is married and has three daughters, struck Ore on her face and body with a closed fist while she attempted to sleep and he began “violently choking her.” “This unprovoked, cowardly, brutal and vicious attack occurred without warning,” the suit states. “As a result of this violent assault, the plaintiff suffered substantial physical and emotional injuries.” The lawsuit also describes an alleged attack that caused Ore to call 911 on Sept. 15. It states the attack occurred at about 2:25 p.m. inside the D Street apartment. Sherwood started an argument with Ore, then “suddenly and without any provocation or justification,” Sherwood punched her in the face and body with a closed fist, then choked her, the complaint states. Ore says she screamed, wiggled away from Sherwood and went into the bathroom, where she turned on the shower in an attempt to hide the sound of the 911 call. Police responded to the 911 call, but did not file charges. Capitol Police, who are “responsible for protecting members of Congress, officers of the United States Senate, United States House of Representatives and their families,” according to the Capitol Police Web site, arrived at the scene first, but handed the matter over to the Metropolitan Police Department. Metropolitan police said they saw no physical evidence of injury to Ore and noted that “both parties have left out significant information or are not willing to discuss in detail what actually happened.” Police said Ore “did not appear to be of sound mind” and initially said she was choked, then changed her story, saying “nothing happened.” Ore admits she was dazed and distressed, but denies ever changing her story. She said police seemed more interested in protecting Sherwood than her. Sherwood has denied choking Ore and has referred to her as a “casual acquaintance.” He told police he was giving her a backrub when she “jumped up” and ran to the bathroom. Sherwood has not returned phone calls to the Times Leader about the incident since April 29, when he tried to convince an editor not to publish a story on Ore’s contentions. Three days after the story ran, Sherwood issued a faxed statement apologizing for causing his family and supporters “pain and embarrassment.” Also, the lawsuit says on Sept. 22, Sherwood threatened Ore, saying he’d harm her if she made any further attempts to tell police about the assaults. Ore has been required to seek hospital attention “as a result of many of the assaults,” and has incurred medical expenses, the lawsuit states. Ore has had lacerations on her face, bruises on her head, neck and other parts of her body and injuries to her teeth, mouth, gums, back, neck and scalp, according to the suit. Ore “has feared and continues to fear for her life and has suffered serious emotional and physical injuries,” the complaint states. Ore recently hired Regan to take the case. She previously hired the Stein Sperling law firm based in Rockville, Md., to obtain medical records and police documents, but is no longer working with the firm. Sherwood represents the 10th Congressional District, which includes all of Bradford, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Union, Wayne and Wyoming counties and parts of Lackawanna, Luzerne and Lycoming counties.
I think Sherwood is going to resign.
I saw the televison news tonight, and it was on all three stations.
Sherwood is toast.
Sherwood is such a coward
This is being covered by the Los Angeles Times:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/politics/wire/sns-ap-congressman-abuse-suit,1,2706940.story?coll=sns-ap-politics-headlines&ctrack=1&cset=true
It looks like Sherwood is going to have to go. What a lying scum of a man.
What a victory for every gold digger in Washington if this woman makes one cent from this nonsense.
If so ,it's open season on every politician all of whom are easy targets for extortion.
You seem to be excusuing Sherwood.
I am glad when women who have been physically abused by men hold them accountable.
Sherwood should be in jail, not walking around.
The Scranton Times said yesterday that Sherwood would have a hard time making his case to voters the next election because of his hypocracy.
Sherwood needs to resign.
The articles keep appearing more and more in the paper. Sherwood cannot win.
All people in the US are innocent unless proven guilty.
If a couple of talking heads at WILK and a bitter ex opponent don't like that, so what.
If the election was tomorrow, Cong. Sherwood would win again.
I can't believe you are an apologist for Sherwood.
Cong.Sherwood doesn't need an apologist.
This is going nowhere,he will win again and these accusations will go away and so will this little site ,that accuses people with no proof, give it up.
If Sherwood didn't need an aologist, then you probably wouldn't be doing it for him.
This is just getting bigger. I seriously question whether Sherwood will be around for another term.
He may just hang it up, because he can only walk around with his head hung in shame.
He can't even speak for himself anymore, and has to have sometone talk for him.
What kind of power is that?
He's finsihed.
He just may not know it yet.
I read the other day that Sherwood began beating the woman when she mentioned that she would like to see his house.
What a coward.
If you are so confident, just run against him again.
If you have some accurate facts sign your name, otherwise crawl back in your hole.
Dear Politcal Hack:
if you are proud of the Congressman, please tell us who you are. Otherwise, we must assume that you are ashamed to be associated with him, and/or just a political operative/liar.
I don't blame you for not wanting to be associated with a woman-abuser. No one would.
That is why Sherwood is now dirt.
I'm a voter in the 10th district.
I voted for Don in the past and will again.
I have never contributed to his campaign or campaigned for him in the past.
I will gladly state my name, when the cowards that run this site do.
I don't believe that the person who started this site is lacking in courage.
Perhaps we have gone too far in the name calling.
Skrepenak would be a real challenger:
The Citizens Voice
Skrepenak mulls run for Congress
Luzerne County Commissioner Greg Skrepenak is considering a run at the Democratic nomination for U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood's seat.
Skrepenak, 34, would not say Tuesday if the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, a Washington D.C. political group that promotes party candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, supports his possible candidacy.
The group is calling Sherwood "vulnerable." The four-term Republican congressman is up for re-election next year.
"Congress has always been in the back of my mind," Skrepenak said. "Timing is everything in this business. It would sure appear the timing is right for the Democrats to take over that seat.
"I have to explore the opportunity wholeheartedly."
Skrepenak is intrigued by higher office because he feels "true policy change" has to be implemented on the federal or state level, not locally. If he enters the race, some of his key issues would be health care, social security and economic growth.
"If this (possible candidacy) gets out and people encourage me and support me, I will have a very difficult decision to make," Skrepenak said. "My family will be a big part of that decision and help me decide what to do.
"I would have to raise money too - a lot of it," he said.
Skrepenak, of Dallas, is in the second year of his first term as county commissioner.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee would not disclose Tuesday whether Skrepenak or anyone else from the area has been tapped to run against Sherwood.
"We have had some interest in that race from Democrats in the district, but I don't think we're in a position where we're releasing those names publicly at this point," said Sarah Feinberg, press secretary for the Democratic political group.
Despite Sherwood's re-election bid being 16 months away, the committee claims he is "vulnerable" for failing to fight for his constituents' priorities, specifically health care and gasoline prices.
Last week, Cynthia Ore, 29, filed a lawsuit in Washington, D.C., court alleging Sherwood beat and choked her during a five-year affair.
Sherwood has refused to comment on the nature of his relationship with the Maryland woman, but denies abuse. Sherwood claims Ore filed the suit to extort a large settlement.
"His legal and ethical troubles aside, we believe he is incredibly vulnerable because he has failed in representing the district," Feinberg said.
As for the 2006 race, Skrepenak's possible opposition on the Democratic side could come from Susquehanna County.
Christopher P. Carney, a political science professor at Penn State University's Worthington campus, Scranton, is also "strongly considering" a run.
Dr. Carney, 46, Ph.D., of Dimock Township, is a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve.
His decision to enter the race will not be because of Sherwood's legal troubles, but failure to address the plight of people who lack health insurance, runaway health care costs and President Bush's plan to privatize social security.
Six weeks ago, Dr. Carney says he met with officials from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about entering the race. Officials also have talked with Skrepenak, Dr. Carney claims.
In 2002, Dr. Carney helped build evidence former Secretary of State Colin Powell used to make the case to the United Nations for war against Iraq. He also served as an advisor to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
State Rep. Phyllis Mundy, another prominent local
Democrat, was encouraged to run by Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll. She has opted not to enter the race.
Borys Krawczeniuk, staff writer, contributed to this report.
I'm surprised anyone now, would admit they helped coach Colin Powell sell the attack on Iraq.
Greg would have done better without his experience in politics, but now he must run on that record, not his previous football glory days.
Keep looking and yes, stop the name calling.
Skrep is, and will be popular.
He is a blue-collar guy, and will be a formidible candidate. He appears ready to run.
Gas Prices, there is a world wide political solution to this immediate and long term problem.
Price fixing is illegal in the US however OPEC has no problem fixing prices and robbing us blind.
We continue to give foreign aid and comfort to our "friends" like Mexico, the Saudis and Norway(a friend though very little foreign aid) and others that could sell us oil directly, with the right incentives. Additional exploration in the US and Canada is solving the problem also.
The elected representatives that solve this problem and it can be solved now, will win the elections. If not boot them all out.
Iraq is currently producing and exporting oil, where is that oil going?
Just to clarify something: the people trying to sabotage this site started name-calling, not the poeple posting.
So yes, the name caling was getting silly. The purpose of the siter is to dump Sherwood.
Where are the conscientious Republicans?
If you can find someone better, fine.
Why not look for a better candidate if you can find one, that will improve the lives of the people in the 10th district.
A lot of these people are involved in Agriculture, which Sherwood is an expert on and very influential in that arena.
The people you mentioned don't know anymore about it, than food comes from a grocery store.

Sherwood woes leave clear path for Skrepenak
CASEY JONES
OPINION
Welcome back to Monday Night Political Football.
Live from beautiful Tunkhannock, the heart of Pennsylvania’s 10th U.S. Congressional District, this is Casey Jones with the call.
It’s first and goal in the fourth quarter. The Republicans have the ball. And it appears they have the congressional seat sewn up for another two years.
This is Don Sherwood’s Forest. The congressman scored big here in the last three elections, and the Democrats can’t seem to stop him.
There’s the snap, and it’s a handoff to Sherwood. Look at that little car dealer go. He’s takin’ it to the House.
Hold the phone! Sherwood’s hit. The ball is loose.
Amazing! A young blonde came flying out of nowhere to take the congressman down.
Let me see. Who caused the fumble? It’s Cynthia Ore, 29, a 100-pound place kicker out of Maryland.
She may be small, but kicking is all about accuracy, and Ore kicked the congressman right where he thinks, I mean where it counts.
Sherwood is stunned. He’s in denial. And he’s making no attempt to recover.
The football is still loose, and here comes Greg Skrepenak charging on to the field.
Unbelievable! He’s got the ball! Skrepenak’s got the ball! He’s running for Congress, and it looks like he could … go … all … the … way!
Situation too good to pass up
A county commissioner has about as many chances to become a congressman as an offensive lineman has to touch the football.
So when opportunity knocks -- when the ball is on the ground or a sitting congressman is vulnerable -- you go for it. And it appears that Skrep, that savvy old NFL lineman and rookie Luzerne County commissioner, is going for it.
He’s only in his sophomore season in politics, and already he wants to join the Varsity Club. He wants to stick his helmet in the huddle on the Hill.
Skrepenak is thinking about running for the 10th District seat held by Tunkhannock car dealer Don “Hot Rod” Sherwood. And Sherwood, a married man who apparently fooled around and caused a big scandal, is vulnerable.
Sherwood fumbled the ball when he went to Washington and got mixed up with Ore, a woman less than half his age.
And the penalty flags are flying.
Sherwood is accused of excessive celebration, illegal use of the hands, and being a hypocrite.
And it leaves Skrep sitting pretty.
Should Skrep choose to run, his likely competitor in the Democratic primary would be some no-name college professor who never played a down of professional football in his life. Skrep wouldn’t even work up a sweat.
Then all he has to do is play a lot of golf and raise a lot of money and hire political campaign consultant Ed Mitchell, who will chew Sherwood up and spit Sherwood out.
You have to like Skrep’s chances.
He’s a fund-raising machine.
He’s a local legend.
And when he was running for county commissioner, his campaign speeches were so inspiring that I kept dropping into a three-point stance.
Face it. Skrep has it all. The man’s got money, the man’s got name, and the man’s got game.
Pretty funny, the Democrats need someone,I guess anyone will do.
Yes and before someone says he will win in a landslide, anyone betting on him will be quite dismayed when it's time to pay up.
A football player who tackles and blocks other men in a voluntary sport is better than a man who cheats, beats, and strangles a woman.
I thought you were going to stop name calling.
Slandering someone that is innocent untill proven otherwise is even worse.
Ok, I apologize. I did say that we should stop name calling. I should not have referredn to Skrep a a "football player."
He did play football, but my name-calling was inexcusable. As for Sherwood's behavior, well, I didn't resort to name-calling. I just said what the woman says he did. He did not say that he did not do those things.
Two more articles in the Times Leader today.
Time for Sherwood to go.
Let's face it, at one time Sherwood was unbeatable, but now he is just a woman-beater who on one would want to support.
Sherwood is like a rock in water sinking quickly.
When Skrepenak takes the field, he will crush Sherwood.
Sherwood's reputation, and credibility is toast.
Skrepnak will make a great Congressman. People will be afraid to argue with him.
I can't wait until Skrep declares officially.
Hmm
There was an article in the Williamsport paper today ridiculing Sherwood. He is now known for choking a woman he had a affair with.
When people say Sherwood, that is what they think of now. He's done as a politician, whether he knows it, or admits it, or not.
Yes, Sherwood needs to retire, for himself and his family, as well as for the district.

Look out Sherwood, this blog’s for you, constituent-journalist says
By KRIS WERNOWSKY kwernowsky@leader.net
www.sherwoodwatch.org
MESHOPPEN – The first entry on Steve Peacock’s Web site is a brief yet foreboding message to U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood: “I’m watching you, and I’m watching you closely.”
Strong words.
But Peacock is quick to explain.
He’s the owner, writer and sole contributor to sherwoodwatch.org, an online journal, or blog, where he has forged a personal crusade to scrutinize the legislative doings of the Tunkhannock Republican.
Fueled by his own journalistic curiosity and blessed by a pinch of good timing, Peacock’s site opened the day after the Times Leader broke the story that Sherwood allegedly choked a woman who wasn’t his wife in his Washington, D.C., apartment. Peacock, 40, insists he started the site as a watchdog mechanism to monitor Sherwood’s policy decisions and campaign contributions, and not as a way to follow the salacious story.
Sherwoodwatch.org is a blend of straightforward information mixed with the occasional dose of commentary. Peacock said he is not politically affiliated with any organization seeking to oust Sherwood from office.
“I am no shill for any of his political opponents,” said Peacock, a registered independent who voted against Sherwood in the 2004 election. “I’ve never been in contact with any of his opponents.”
Blogs have become somewhat of a phenomenon, though they differ in quality from site to site, according to Al Tompkins the broadcast/online group leader for the Poynter Institute, a journalism school based in St. Petersburg, Fla. Some blogs consist of hard-nosed investigative Web-journalism performed by seasoned journalists, while many are merely gossip hubs or online diaries where people detail their everyday lives.
“Of the millions upon millions of blogs, the huge majority of them are absolutely useless,” Tompkins said. “That said, there are some very useful and very insightful conversations that are going on. Some of them do give voices to the voiceless.”
The danger, Tompkins said, is some blogs masquerade themselves as legitimate sources of news and information while touting a bias or political agenda.
Many of the dozens of blogs that surfaced after reports of the alleged assault that took place between the 64-year-old married congressman and 29-year-old Cynthia Ore do little in the way of independent reporting. Most simply link to mainstream news sites or contain posts that are unfounded hearsay.
“Bloggers who are not journalists are not usually willing to expose pieces of the conversation that are not advantageous to their own interests,” Tompkins explained. “We have to ask ourselves, ‘What do we know about the motivation of those talking?’ ”
In Peacock’s case, he said he didn’t create the site to be scandalous or sensational. He likens his work to picking up where area newspapers leave off, and thinks his own background as a journalist makes him qualified to do so.
“I think that there’s a definite need for independent media in general and online media to fill in the blanks, particularly in areas where there is a consolidation of media organizations,” Peacock said. “I think the drawback of too much of online media is their tendency to provide opinion rather than factual reporting, or at worst, this kind of weaving of both.
“While I give my opinion on something, I also investigate the documents and I follow the money trail. When I get my opinion, I back it up.”
The sources of Peacock’s information are no big secret. He compiles reports for his site by reading Sherwood’s congressional record, researching the federal election commission’s database of campaign contributions and comparing that information to Sherwood’s voting record.
“I want to make people aware of the true record of Don Sherwood on Capitol Hill. I think people rely on his perceived image and the press releases he puts out. I also want to spark a greater interest in the political process itself. I hope people will take a look at the details of how laws are made and how money is doled out.”
Jake O’Donnell, a spokesman for Sherwood, refused to say if he visited sherwoodwatch.org and said, as a public relations official, there is little he can do to stop Peacock from releasing the information that he does.
“The First Amendment is a good thing,” he said. “It’s a free country and he’s entitled to his opinion and he’s entitled to post it on the Internet, as is anybody.”
O’Donnell declined to address the bloggers’ criticisms or claims on his site.
Peacock didn’t start out as a journalist. He worked as a security officer at the Helmsley Palace Hotel, an upscale Madison Avenue hotel in New York City, from 1987 to 1993. He quit his job and that year at the age of 28 he began his communication studies at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, N.J., where he graduated in 1997.
He took his first post-college job at small family owned daily newspaper called The Herald in Monmouth County, N.J. He accepted his first job in the nation’s capital in spring 1998 at a telecommunications trade paper called Telecommunications Reports International. Suddenly Peacock went from covering sports in New Jersey to meeting with lobbyists, telecommunications heavy-hitters and government officials.
After a year and a half at TRI, Peacock accepted a job with the Communications Daily, a publication owned by Warren Communications News Inc., one of the leading telecommunications publications in the country. He and his wife soon tired of the fast-paced Washington, D.C., life, and in 2003 made a temporary move to New Jersey before moving to Meshoppen 18 months ago.
Peacock now makes a living as a substitute teacher and is a graduate student at Marywood University in Scranton where he is working on a master’s degree in reading education. The Peacock family, which includes his daughters, 6 and 3, is moving to Montrose.
He still dips into freelance writing, but he mainly focuses on home-schooling his girls and keeping up on his Sherwood watch.
Despite some strong criticism, the news on sherwoodwatch.org isn’t always negative. Tucked in between posts that claim Sherwood took money from dairy lobbyists or a few paragraphs that mention the story about the alleged extra-marital affair, is a post commending Sherwood for his work in restoring a Medal of Honor award to Richard D. Winters, of Hershey, Pa. So it’s not all bad, Peacock said.
“I’m not saying he’s mean or evil. He’s the congressman for the area I live in and I want people to know what he’s doing or failing to do.”
--Blog is short for Weblog. It’s a personal Web site that provides updated headlines and news articles of interest to the user. It also may include journal entries, commentaries and recommendations compiled by the user, according to Webster’s dictionary.

Wow that is exciting! Who's running against Don?
Right now it looks like the former football player.
If they ever stand next to each other, Sherwood will look like a midget. People will be laughing.
"Diminutive Don" assaulted a woman.
Do you really want to get into the drug problems of Greg's ex-wife, since you continue to slander Don?
Considering expertise and knowledge there is no question who is the midget in that comparison, and it's not Don.
"Don" is a woman abuser.
This is about the candidates, not their ex-wives ( a true cheap shot). The man faced the issues honestly, courageously, and used his experience to benefit the community, and get commtment to do good.
Regarding "expertise and knowledge," Sherwood entered the office with no background on national issues. He then just voted HOW HE WAS TOLD to vote.
What does this man believe in? We know that he was more inerested in maintaining an abusive relationship than remaining a Congressman.
Were you there to witness these charges, was anyone else, no.
As always more nonsense. Please remember to report the outcome of this civil suit.
There must have been thousands of these over the years against representatives in Washington, plenty of women there looking for financial opportunities.
Sherwood has not denied he had a long term sexual affairwith this woman, and in fact has admitted as much.
The woman comes from a wealtyh family, and said she was really interested getting in an apology, not money. Apparrently, Sherwood has not the character to do this.
I also believe the woman was in love with him, and that she is deeply hurt, and that the anger from the hurt is what prompts her to press the civil suit.
Sherwood used her like a tissue.
You haven't denied that you are an idiot.
First you said the woman was French, now we hear she was born in Peru, that' a long way from France.
No wonder you don't sign your name to this site, because you can't remember it.
Since you can't dispute the argument, you resort to name-calling.
The woman is from Peru, where they speak French.
Sherwood's actions cannot be defended.
The shills have to resort to attacking people who don't accept his dishonest, criminal, dishonorable, and cowardly behavior.
Honey, I've been to Peru they speak Spanish there.
You are an idiot
Don't call me honey. You must be like Sherwood, a Chavanistic Pig!
Cynthia grew up in Peru, and spoke French until she was a teenager, and then taught herself Enhlish after her family moved America.
Honey ....some people speak French in the US as well, but it's not our main langage and it's not in Peru either.
Be glad someone is talking to you at all, no one else is.
I am not your "Honey," buster, and yes, you are a good straw-man.
Honey is that similar to seeking a good roll in the hay?
You seem to be a pig like Sherwood.
You seem to be very lonely, frustrated and finally quite boring.
Thus you can now continue to talk to yourself.
This site is about Dumping Sherwood.
You have not been contributing, So Good Riddance!
Aw, shucks.....
A good straw-man is hard to find!
Don't go way angry,....
Who was that masked man?
Just a coward who was so afraid to be associated with Sherwood, that he never identified himself.
He seemd like he could be related to Sherwood. He kept excusing Sherwood, and attacking the woman who was abused by Sherwood.

Sherwood gets more time to answer complaint
By Rafael Cores, Medill News Service 07/12/2005
WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood has received a 20-day extension to respond to a suburban Maryland woman's allegations of abuse, including assault and battery, in her $5.5 million civil suit against the Tunkhannock Township Republican.
Cynthia Ore filed a lawsuit on June 15 in the District of Columbia Superior Court claiming Sherwood repeatedly and violently abused her during a five-year romantic relationship. The congressman has publicly denied the allegations of abuse, but had not formally responded to the complaint.
The response deadline was the end of last week, but both parties agreed Wednesday to extend it another 20 days.
"It is very standard in litigation for the parties to extend the time to respond to the complaint," said Bobby Burchfield, Sherwood's lawyer. "Nothing unusual here at all."
No negotiations are going on between the two sides, he said.
Efforts to reach Ore's lawyer on Monday were unsuccessful.
In her suit, the 29-year-old Rockville, Md., resident said she and Sherwood began a "close romantic and intimate personal relationship" in 1999 and lived together in the congressman's Washington apartment for much of that time.
She alleged specific instances of abuse on June 24 and Sept. 15 last year, but said he repeatedly and violently physically assaulted and abused her throughout their relationship.
Ore said Sherwood threatened to physically harm her if she talked to police any more after the Sept. 15 incident, when she called 911 from Sherwood's apartment on D Street. The police investigated the case but did not file charges against Sherwood.
It looks like the days of Sherwood are OVER!
Sherwood, like Rove are liars, cheats, and criminals who deserve to be shown the door. That is, if they don't have at least the last shread of self respect and decency enough to walk out themselves.
These guys are lying scum!
Sherwood is "a dump!"
If you ladies can find a candidate that will lower gas prices,I will vote for him .
Price fixing is illegal in the US. Why should we accept prices fixed by OPEC? Find someone with a solution to this serious problem.
LR
I agree!
Sherwood, like Rove, has betrayed the confidence of the country, and needs to resign or be fired.
Sherwood can go back and just lie to people about cars.
I agree.....well then let's focus on something important.
Maybe some 3rd world country with oil, might like to drop out of OPEC and allow the US to transform the whole country into a modern and up to date society, in exchange for an exclusive oil agreement for 99 years.
Any of your future candidates have any good ideas in that direction?
"Maybe some 3rd world country with oil, might like to drop out of OPEC and allow the US to transform the whole country into a modern and up to date society"
The issue here is that the leaders of the oil rich countries already are living in very comfortable and modern conveniences. The people of the country are neglected.
The US supports the dictatorships that keep it this way.
Enerry self sufficiency seems to be the way. Oil is going to start running out in 10-20 years, and we should get prepared for the radical changes this will bring about.
We have a neighbor to our south without a dictator.
Don't sound like Jimmy Carter, "put on a sweater and turn down the thermostat",tell that to the trucking industry.

We have Don in the 10th - what is done is done. I wish the R's would have felt this way when Bill Clinton was in office. Regardless - let's get solving problems. Start with Health Care, move to softening the NCLB (Bush installed a standard that he himself could not meet when he was in school and probably could not meet it today), then look at energy. If we spent 250 billion on energy independence instead of the Iraqi war we would be well on our way to freeing ourselves of foreign energy dependence. If those three could be tackled and plans in place then our Reps and Sen would earn our respect regardless of personal issues.
